Preparing for its third trip to South Korea the Illinois Woodwind Quintet is comprised of five unique individuals with varying careers. Flutist Jonathan Keeble is known for his rich tone, effervescent personality, and nuanced musicality. In high demand as performing artist and master class clinician, he has been described as having an ¡°infinitely flexible sound, with many subtle colors,¡± and is among the leading performers of his generation. John Dee is the Bill A. Nugent Endowed Professor of Music Performance and Professor of Oboe at the University of Illinois. He was principal oboe of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra and Florida Grand Opera for over twenty years and also Oboe Professor at the University of Miami and the Harid Conservatory of Music. Clarinetist J. David Harris has won critical acclaim for his elegant and expressive playing. As the principal clarinetist with Sinfonia da Camera, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Harris combines technical mastery, depth of musicality, and a solid ensemble style to his playing. Hornist of the Canadian Brass and Assistant Professor of Horn at the University of Illinois, Bernhard Scully has been described as among the elite musicians of his generation, both as a performer and a pedagogue. Bernhard was formerly principal horn of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and he frequently performs with orchestras across North America such as the Chicago Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, and Violon du Roy of Quebec City. In addition to his appointment as Associate Professor of Bassoon at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Timothy McGovern is currently Principal Bassoonist with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Prairie Winds Woodwind Quintet and IQ (Illinois Woodwind Quartet). For seven years he was Associate Principal Bassoon of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Principal Bassoon of the Montreal Symphonette and McGill Chamber Orchestra.
