ISCM Honorary Member Sukhi Kang, a composer who is regarded as a master of contemporary Korean music, died of a chronic disease on 16 August 2020 at dawn, aged 86.

Born in 1934, the deceased was from Seoul and graduated from Seoul National University's Department of Composition. In 1966, he released Korea's first electronic music 'Feast of Primary Colors' and in 1969 hosted the 'Modern Music Biennale'. Later, he went to Germany to study in 1970 and majored in composition at Hanover University and the Berlin National University of Music. At that time, he learned composition from Isang Yun, a world-renowned composer who was active in Germany.

 

During the 1988 Seoul Olympics, he was also the music director for the closing ceremony. He composed the torch music for the closing ceremony of the 1988 Olympics, "Prometheus comes".

He was founder of PAN Music Festival & Dimension Festival and he served vice-president of ISCM, president of ISCM Korea section, music director of PAN Music Festival.

He hosted ISCM World Music Days in Seoul in 1997.

His major works include the Korean traditional orchestra "Chwitahyang" (1987), "Buru" (1987) and "Dialogue" (1989), and the Seoul Olympic torch music "Prometheus Oda" (1988). The deceased was awarded a prize at the Paris Composer Festival in 1976, as well as the Dae Jong Film Awards for Music (1979), the Korea Composition Award (1979), the Korea Culture and Arts Award (1990), the Archives of Culture (1998), and the International Contemporary Music Association (INMC) Composition Award (1999). , Won the Daewon Cultural Foundation Composition Award (2006).

1934³â ¼­¿ï Ãâ»ýÀ¸·Î ¼­¿ï´ëÇб³ ÀÛ°î°ú¸¦ Á¹¾÷ÇÏ°í, 1966³â Çѱ¹ ÃÖÃÊÀÇ ÀüÀÚÀ½¾Ç '¿ø»öÀÇ Ç⿬'À» Á¦ÀÛ¹ßÇ¥ÇÏ°í, 1969³â¿¡´Â Çö´ëÀ½¾Çºñ¿£³¯·¹¸¦ °³ÃÖÇÏ¿´½À´Ï´Ù. 1970³â µ¶ÀÏ·Î À¯ÇÐÀ» ¶°³ª Çϳë¹ö´ëÇб³¿Í º£¸¦¸°±¹¸³À½¾Ç´ëÇб³¿¡¼­ ÀÛ°îÀ» Àü°øÇÏ¿´½À´Ï´Ù. ´ç½Ã ±×´Â µ¶ÀÏ¿¡¼­ È°µ¿ÇÑ ¼¼°èÀûÀÎ ÀÛ°î°¡ À±ÀÌ»ó°ú º¸¸®½º ºí¶óÇã¿¡°Ô ÀÛ°îÀ» ¼öÇÐÇß½À´Ï´Ù.


1988³â ¼­¿ï¿Ã¸²ÇÈ Æó¸·½Ä À½¾Ç°¨µ¶À» ¿ªÀÓÇÏ¿´°í, 88 ¼­¿ï¿Ã¸²ÇÈ ¼ºÈ­À½¾Ç Prometheus Comes¸¦ ÀÛ°îÇÏ¿´½À´Ï´Ù.
